The Origin of Project Greaves

Not too long ago, I used the Soulcaster III engine to clone Gauntlet 1985. As a sign of how slightly overwrought the engine was, I was able to import the sprite sheet and get it up and running within six days. The hardest part was getting the creatures to tend towards the “grooves” that keep them aligned to tiles, which helps with aiming, uncrowding, and navigation of small corridors.

I couldn’t help but import the lighting engine from Escape Goat 2.

  1. Hello, I hope you are doing well – Still looking forward to whatever you may release 🙂

  2. Thanks for checking in on me! I think there might be enough Secret of Mana influence in the next game to engage you. At this stage, I just need to get rid of some placeholder (ripped) artwork and then I can start posting updates.

  3. It has become something quite different, but yes, a descendant of this design is still being made… our publisher wants us to get things a bit more polished up before revealing more though, so that’s why it’s been quiet around here for so long.

  4. Glad there’s still life in it. Something reminded me of Escape Goat and then that reminded me of Soul Caster and this project so I came to check. Hope you are well, and thanks.

  5. There is, it’s definitely become a brand new creature over the past few years, but a new game is still coming…

  6. Can’t wait for this 🙂 I’m still thinking about it from time to time. Fingers crossed 🙂

  7. Thanks for your support! My next game is still coming, it’s been quite a dev cycle to say the least, and the design has changed substantially from what it was back then–but some day in the future I will emerge with something to show for the time…

  8. Hello,
I’ve finished a Soulcater 1 game. Now I’ve got back to your page to see any updates, but nomore news recently. Are you working on any game? Any chances something will be release / revealed in 2022?
    All the best,
