Escape Goat 2 Turns 10 Today

There’s so much I want to say about this game and its launch in 2014, but I have to wait until I have a little more energy.

In the meantime, here’s a cool prototype world map screen Randy made:

  1. Happy Anniversery, even if I’m a little late 🙂

Thank you for creating a great experience, and one of my absolute favorite puzzle games ever. Thank you for sharing your journey, and letting us be around

I wish you all the best, and hope that energy decides to return someday

  2. Happy anniversary! 😀

Thought about Escape Goat yesterday and realised I never started Escape Goat 2, so booted it right away and cant wait to finish it!

Thanks for some really great games – Also love Soulcaster! 😀

  3. I had sent you emails like 12 years ago, I was gonna make my own game and stuff. I finally didn’t make it. I still may make it one day though. Then I worked on a mmorpg private server, and made 3, the last one being focused on earning money and experience (which worked a lil but drained me too cause I wasn’t passionate about it). Not a real success and I thought i’m gonna make a better one later. I used to receive messages from people asking be about when I will release this or that (like you receive). After the covid fake pandemic and forced poisonous vaccines, I had to do something real and tangible, something that suited me for real, something that didn’t make me feel like a soy boy. Now I’m gardening, harvesting, boxing and trading. I still want to achieve those things I started though (out of ego maybe? or because I don’t like having spent so much time on these things?) but I couldn’t due to various reasons. It slightly stings me from time to time to think I could have made those, but it’s really no big deal in the end, I learned a lot. I did what I had to do, that’s life. At some point, you have to listen to yourself (I don’t like coding, I don’t like drawing, yet I’m good at both, but it’s too time consuming, I entirely stopped).

Nonetheless, I remember fondly Escape Goat 1 as being one of the best game on xbox live indie games, which was pretty shocking considering the price and the shitty games there, and I finished it and made custom maps for… nobody 🙁

PS: maybe my comment can help, spreading some seeds of ideas on why you’re so tired (who knows? when there is nothing left), with no filter cause idgaf

  4. Congrats Ian! :^)

I’ve never played Escape Goat 1 or 2, but I bought the orignal Soulcaster and 2 on the Xbox 360 a lifetime ago XD. I believe it was 13 years ago, was 15 at the time and horrifically depressed and suicidal. This and many other games helped keep me going and not kill myself!

Loved the retro throwback ala Genesis, Snes, Nes, whatever it was that inspired those games.

UFO 50 just came out today so was just thinking of these two games, thanks again for making such wonderful homages and games that could have been made in that era.
Am buying both on Steam now, very awesome of you to sell them at such low prices despite the soul and passion you poured into them! Beat SC1 but haven’t beaten SC2 until now! Going to be the highlight of the year getting back into these games again. :^)

I can’t wait to see what you have next! Maybe Soulcaster 3??

Never lose hope my friend! Will be praying for you, God bless!

  5. Big fan of this game. I replay parts of it a lot.

Don’t think I’ll ever manage to beat the extra levels though!

  6. I’m closer to the upcoming 15th anniversary of Soulcaster on March 1st of this year than I am to the 10th of Escape Goat 2 last year but wanted to say thank you for games that I enjoyed, and still enjoy, and soundtracks I still listen to today. My 9 year old daughter loves the Escape Goat 2 soundtrack and for like five whole minutes she thought I was cool when I said I talked to you online a few times and you followed me on Twitter. 😛

I hope you’re able to find the energy to have an outlet again, whatever it may be, but no matter what I’m happy you’re here, and thank you again.

  7. Hey Ian, I’m glad to see you’re still around. Just know you still have people out here supporting you. I have always been so proud to have had any part your projects. Even little things like keeping a speed running trick in the game lol!

I have a 3 year old now and just played Escape Goat with her the other day. It was honestly quite emotional for me after all this time.

If there’s anything I could ever help you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  8. Coming back to you after all these years to say I really am glad I stumbled onto Escape Goat back on the XBLIG days and we had that Polygon chat about your work and dreams. I hope to see more from you soon!
