Soulcaster I & II Are On PC!

The wait is over… you can get these titles right now as part of the Indie Royale bundle!

Already played them on Xbox?  Well I’ve added a few extras to sweeten the deal:

  • Three control schemes:  Original 360 controller, keyboard only (fully remappable!), or click-to-move with keyboard and mouse
  • New challenge rooms:  18 all new levels (8 for Soulcaster, 10 for Soulcaster II) which unlock after beating the campaign. Think of them as time trials with unique combinations of summons.  It even saves your best times for each room!
  • Unlockable campaign modes:  Hard Mode not difficult enough for you? Try going without one of the summons.  Still not had enough? Try beating the game with just the archer!  Your best total time for each campaign mode is also saved.
  • Autosaving.  No more writing down passwords (though I’m gonna miss this).  It is 2012 after all.
  • Option to run in windowed mode or full-screen, stretched to fit or pixel-perfect.

I’m really excited to finally offer these games on PC.  My main project this year so far has been porting these games, and I couldn’t have done this without the help of my crack team of beta testers.  I love you guys!

Time for some screenshots:

Comments are very welcome here!  I hope you enjoy Soulcaster I & II on PC!

  1. It’s borderline criminal how unrepresented indie games are on Xbox Live. Had you not been in the Valentine Bundle I would never have known this game exists, and that would have been a shame.

Any chance of appearing on Steam? It might be a very good move, keeping in mind Cthulhu Saves the World.
Either way, best of luck on PC!

  2. @Holsety, thank you for checking out the game, and I hope you have fun with it! I’d love to get on Steam, it’s just a matter of building up some buzz and cred to get Valve’s attention. The bundle will definitely help with that.

  3. Great! 🙂

I had already tried playing through SC1 with just Shaedu on the XBLIG version as a self-imposed challenge but didn’t get too far. That’s gonna be tough!

  4. Aw, was looking forward to playing this. However I don’t have Windows Media Player installed, and it’s telling me it really really wants it installed (sound playback failed). Any chance of a work around, or should I just deal with WMP on my system ?

  5. @Kayin Angel, Unfortunately version 1.0 will require WMP. This was something I didn’t expect with the XNA port, which one tester encountered, and supposedly can be fixed by changing the audio library. I’ll definitely be patching this as soon as I can! In the meantime, you could just deal with WMP on your system 🙂

  6. I wish i had the ability to buy the bundle. But i already know Soulcaster 1 is awesome from beta testing it. I can’t wait until im able to get my hands on number 2 to try it out!

  7. @Spike Ash, I’ll try to put together a demo soon. That’s a good idea and it’ll give people a chance to try it out before purchasing.

  8. just started soulcaster. great stuff! i really enjoy tactical games where you have to think on your feet. hope your third game makes it to pc eventually

  9. Hello, i just bought Indie Royal bundle and i cant run both of soulcaster games. I got such error:
“No suitable graphics card found. Could not find a Direct3d degice that supports the XNA Framework Reach profile. Verify that a suitable graphics device is installed. Make sure the desktop is not locked, and that no other application is running in full screen mode. Aviod running under Remote Desktop or as a Windosws service. Check the display properties to make sure hardware acceleration is set to Full.”
U have Windows xp home edition, Intel Celeron 2.00GHz, 512MB ram and Radeon 9000 series.

  10. @Martius, I’m sorry you can’t get the games started. I don’t think you will have any luck with that machine because it seems below the minimum requirements for XNA. This is something I can’t do anything about unfortunately.

  11. Geez, i thought that game would run on my old crap. Well bundle wasnt so much money, so it can wait until i get new pc.

  12. I’m so excited that these games are finally available on PC. Soulcaster 1 and 2 were definitely my favorite downloadable titles on the Xbox, but I could never convince my PC gaming friends to go out of their way to play it on the Xbox consoles they already own. I’ll definitely spread these titles to as many as I can.

  13. I’m glad I’ve plunked down for the Indie Royale Bundle! Soulcaster turns out to be a challenging game, so I’m looking forward to trying out the extra modes. And the second game! I’ll be keeeping an eye out for your future games.

  14. I just got around to trying both of the Soulcaster games today from the indie bundle. They both fail with the same error- sound playback failed. I do have WMP installed, version 12.0.7601.17514. Why else might it fail at this step? Win 7 64-bit, Core2 Extreme CPU, nvidia 8800M GTS gfx.

  15. @Qun Mang, I am working on a fix for this right now, and have a beta version which might fix it. Please contact me if you are able to test out this new version (contact link at top of this site).
